The tree instrumental in humanity’s first sin was in the Garden of Eden, but a wood cross built from a tree was instrumental in the antidote for sin.

When I processed this photo of an ancient gnarled tree, I immediately thought of Jesus wood cross.

Sin started with a tree, and a wood cross built from a tree connected us to the potential for freedom from sin.

When we connect to Jesus through faith, His life flows through us as sap flows through a tree. He is the root, the sap, the sustenance and even the tree itself. He asks us just to be a branch and receive Life – His Life.

If we simply live in Him, allowing His life to flow through us, feeding on His Word, Psalm 1 says we “shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bring forth its fruit in its season…”…rooted, anchored, secure, unmovable, flourishing and abundantly fruitful.

Jesus let us know that our connection to Him is as critical as that of a branch to a tree when he instructed, “I am the vine. You are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing”.

He is our Life if we are connected to Him.

And without Him we do not have Life. Not true Life. True Life is forever with Him.
